I have purposely put off blogging about this because the time never seemed right. However, I think the time is now. I'm in the process of raising funds for a trip to Cebu City in the Philippines, where I will have the opportunity to serve young trafficked girls and women who have left the lifestyle of sexual exploitation. This has long been a desire of mine, and I was excited when I discovered that my local church offered this sort of justice trip. I have been working to raise funds for the last couple of months, and it has not been easy. I have to come up with $1,500 by next Thursday, August 22nd and as of last week I was not doing so great with the fundraising. I didn't even have half of what I needed by the deadline. When this happens there is always the temptation to get discouraged.
Then, this week rolled around. I took today off from my desk job in lieu of my 29th birthday. After waking and getting my morning routine done I had an urge to check on the status of my fundraising. I was delighted to see that in just the last 48 hours I had raised a few hundred dollars more toward my goal!! Now with only six more days, the pressure is on!!!
If you are interested in partnering with me on this adventure then you can find out more about the trip / donating HERE.
To my friends, friends of friends, and all of the anonymous givers...thank you for your contributions. This money is being used to cover materials and things my team will be using to work with these precious girls. To those of you who I have asked and you have not given, please consider the words of C.S. Lewis from his book Mere Christianity (which I am currently reading):
”I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare…If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us,… they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot do because our charitable expenditures excludes them.” (86)
